Five of the best U.K. cycle trails to try out

There is nothing better than getting out in the open and riding your favourite bike. But are you getting bored of the same local routes? Are you looking to explore new routes across the country? Well, good news because here at NextGen we’ve found five great cycle routes you should tick off your list.

Camel Trail- Cornwall

The 18-mile traffic-free cycle path takes you on an adventure through the countryside and seaside towns where you can stop off at local shops, pubs and attractions. Bring your bicycle or hire one at one of the three easily accessible hire points in Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin. It isn’t just perfect for cyclists as the route is great for walkers and horse-riders. So, enjoy some of Britain’s best countryside. As well as being accessible for all there’s plenty of car parking spots throughout the trail.

The Great Orme- Wales

This short but sweet cycle path in Wales is perfect for a sunny mid-afternoon bicycle ride. Filled with amazing views throughout the five-mile road which stretches around the Welsh seaside town of Llandudno, the mini-mountain you’ll be cycling up gives you stunning views of the small town. As well as a cycle path you can enjoy a day at the famous beach, walk down Wales’ longest pier or hop on a cable car to enjoy more breath-taking views.

Keswick Loop- Lake District

The Lake District is famous for its picturesque landscapes and beautiful nature and the 26-mile Keswick Loop has all of what makes the Lake District great and more. Travel anti-clockwise through mountains, lakeside marinas and if you fancy it why not venture to the gentle two-mile climb into Britain’s only true mountain forest. Despite the distance of the loop, there is a 10km family-friendly route. A gentle journey that ends with a BMX track and playground which your children will love.

Essex Rivers- Essex

A local one for us at NextGen is the Essex Rivers cycle ride. The 22-mile cycle route takes you along the River Colne which allows you to check out North Fambridge, Althorne, Latchingdon, Mundon, Maldon, Purleigh and Cold Norton before the river reaches the sea at Brightlingsea. The Essex Rivers route is perfect if you want to escape the busy day to day life. For more information visit

There’s plenty of different cycle paths throughout the 29-mile route, ranging from 2-miles all the way to the full 29-mile trek around Brockenhurst. Frequently Asked Questions

Our policies cover accidental damage and theft, personal accident, public liability, cycle breakdown and accessory cover (when selected). If you are biking through Europe you and your bicycle are also covered (see trip limitations in the terms and conditions) We also offer cycle hire while you are without your bicycle during a claim.

Your bicycle might be covered under your home insurance but the policy is very unlikely to cover all of your needs and could leave you without your bicycle for a considerable amount of time as home insurance claims can take a while to resolve.

Home insurance isn’t designed with your bicycle in mind, so is unlikely to cover you for elements such as personal accident, public liability, cycle hire and more.

Furthermore, if you claim on your home insurance, the excess you may be required to pay could be higher than the cost of having separate bicycle insurance. Naturally, your contents insurance premium may then increase when your policy comes to renewal, due to the claim you made.
